Wrist Warmers/Fingerless Gloves

What do you call them?  Fingerless gloves, wrist warmers, arm warmers, gloves, or bohos?

Names seem to  vary by region.  I call them One Leaf Tree, though another leaf snuck onto this pair!

Here are some spankin' new designs that I've posted in my Aly The Red etsy shop, to make your winter a little warmer and give giving season a little brighter.

Keep your hands happy and warm while driving, playing music, typing, reading in bed...
Guaranteed to give you greater confidence and comfort on your way to the big job interview, while at the dentist, and taking tests.  Loved by teens and grandmas alike.  Yes, I do have solid colors and men's sizes.

Feeling Foxie?

I have a new batch of Foxgloves, this time on black.  I have also fine tuned my design.  I really wanted the cute little foxy fella to be bigger.  I'm pleased with the turn out.  Almost like wearing a puppet instead of a design.  Happy Autumn!

Rich new colors

Ooo, I'm thrilled to find this rich, royal purple, and the deep teal fleece to make fingerless gloves with.

I field tested them with a good October dog walk this morning.
Dog walking comfort- check!
Ability to use iPhone- check!
Held coffee cup with no slipping- check!  (Of course the dog WAS minding his "heeling free" lesson at the moment so THAT did help).

Autumn is all about the trees

Every autumn for the past five years, I've been creating and selling woodland themed fingerless gloves (aka wrist warmers).  I never tire of finding interesting color combinations and debuting new designs.

Each tree is hand cut and prepared for applique.  I choose to use fleece to applique, rather than felt (which some people like because it's easier).  Sewing fleece over stretchy fleece, is tricky but ends in a more organic style AND is much softer and flexible to wear.

When you put your hands together, the two gloves form a tree.

One Leaf Tree is my signature design.  It represents the last leaf on the tree in the fall and the first leaf on the tree in the spring.  It symbolizes patience, optimism and our connection to nature.

Happy Autumn all!

Where the Gnomes Roam

Gnome ornaments bring their woodland cheer for the holidays. Holidays in September? Yep, this is the time of year my stores and boutiques are putting in their wholesale orders for gnomes and wrist warmers. :-) It's both fun AND efficient to make a big batch at once, now I'm stocked up.

I used my gocco to transform my original gnomes drawings into a silk screen. To print an image, I coat the squeegee with printing paint, and draw it smoothly across the screen. One at a time. They dry over night, I hand paint the hats red, and heat set with my iron. Then the gnomes are ready to be stitched and stuffed for ornaments....... or.........

This year, the gnomes have found their way onto my wrist warmers. Soft, fleecy, washable, fingerless gloves to walk the dog, wear to school, type, knit, work your phone, or play music in.

These are the new prints: pink argyle, into the woods, blue argyle, aurora bliss. Of course I also carry solid colors and tree applique designs.

Autumn Inspirations

It's one of the many things I enjoy about being a designer; I respond to changes in weather, the sky, sunlight, plant life, textures and these experiences are reflected in my work.

My experience is much richer than four seasons. For me, the seasons change slowly. In increments.

Pattern, color, and memories they evoke as we make new ones.

I walk my kids to school most days. We often talk about our dreams on the way to school, and as I return home and to my studio, I enjoy the quiet, notice birds, trees, smells on the wind.

Color!

My gnome garden. I love humor and whimsy.

I hope my wearable art pieces inspire people to enjoy the seasons.

I enjoy the photography sessions and hope my photos are fun to look at, as well as helping the product sell.

I'm lucky to have a studio with lots of natural light, that overlooks the garden. I feel connected to the weather, changes in light, the clouds, blooming flowers, even as I rock out in my studio, creating things and sewing up a storm.

This makes me feel warm and cozy. I hope you do too. :-)

Almost all of my photo sessions are accompanied by curious cats.

Bliss

High Flying Easter Bunnies abound, literally, this time of year. My studio is filled with the bouncy little critters. Two of the new ones this year, have dipped themselves in color for the popular egg dyed look.... sheesh! They are exercising like crazy for the big day. Sort of like bunny Olympics in my studio.

New One Bird Tree and Oceania wrist warmers currently available. I love trees and just planted four fruit trees in my yard. We've created an orchard of dwarf trees in the hen's play pen. The girlz will keep weeds down and nibble up any dropped fruit, keeping the ground clean and bug free. Pretty good deal! The kids are already wondering if we'll get cherries, apricots or apples the first year.

Oh Fi-ya!

It's fun to be in people's treasuries on etsy. Anyone can "curate" their own treasury, you just have to know when the treasuries are open for new postings and NAB one! Fun to make a theme or fav color treasury. This one seems to be inspired by a fire that really happened! Yikes.

I am moving my kids wrist warmers from my AlyTheRed Bliss Monkey Studio shop to Bliss Forest. I think they'd make a good addition to spring Easter baskets. Wrist warmers to accompany the plush bunnies. :-)

Leaves

This time of year has me tucked in my studio sewing One Leaf Trees, and One Bird Tree wrist warmers. They are made of soft, washable, anti-pill fleece. Wrist warmers keep your hands and body warm while walking, driving, typing, shopping (aren't the grocery stores chilly?) AND they are washable. Pop them in the wash, right with your clothes. With all our concerns about hand washing this year, washable gloves are important too.

I love autumn in Oregon. Especially when it's sunny and all the trees slowly turn golden, rust, flame, olive and brown. Too much rain, and it all happens too fast. So far, so good this year.

The childrens' school is only five blocks away, so we design our mornings swith time to walk to school, enjoy the sun, scuff our shoes through falling leaves, laugh and chat, before the school day starts. I head back home to the studio, full of ideas, and fresh air.

New design "Falling Leaves." Appliqueing fleece on fleece is a stretchy, migrating, slippery process. It's hard. This comes in handy, while I'm shaping the tree limbs as I sew, but with the rest of the designs, especially when I want to keep them symmetrical, are challenging. Sometimes I think about going to felt applique, but I like the end result of fleece on fleece. It's soft and stretchy and cozy.

Spring Wrist Warmers - you choose the color

Here's the latest wrist warmers in my shop. A scaled down version for spring: walking the dog, driving, outdoor stuff, as well as in. Many many people buy them to type at work or home and keep their hands happy. Great for knitting. Sooooo soft and warm and cute!

Black licorice, chocolate, or latte- you choose the color!

Spring Palate! Lilac, Grass, and Denim.... imagine Spring is here, you are wearing your favorite old jeans, and beautiful blouse.... it's warm enough to lay in the grass, gaze up at the budding lilac and take in a new season...... ahhhhh................ Ok, try HARD to imagine it, as you look out your office window and see WINTER still upon us. That's why I've made Spring wrist warmers in these lovely shades......just for you!

I'm selling these in the full 10" length. Cute to fold at the cuff. Keeps your hands warm and happy till those WARM days really do roll around the calendar.

I saw two humming birds at the window today! They were looking longingly at the red window decorations. It's still freezing at night, why are they here?? Is this normal arrival time for Oregon? Should I put our new hummingbird feeder out?

Wristies R Us

I'm having a great time sewing "One Leaf Tree" fingerless wrist warmers. The tree styles sell fast, so they are pretty much catch-as-you-can. I can occasionally take custom orders, so it's OK to ask. I use my wrist warmers every day. They are safe for driving because your fingers are bare, great for walking the dog, as well as indoor things like typing and sewing.

They can be pushed back to the wrist, with thumb nub tucked in, to free your hands, but still keep your wrists warm. Great for knitting and hand washing, or when you need to touch something wet and don't want to get your warmers all sog. Wash and dry with your clothes!
